This is the smaller of our two crows foot cultivators, it measures about 8 inches long, the head is about 3 inches across and is most suitable for use in beds with average to narrow spacing between plants. Use it to break up the soil to form a "dust mulch" that helps keep moisture in the soil by slowing evaporation, uproot emerging weed seedlings and work-in fertilizers and amendments. By the way, these tools got their start as nail rakes, dragging nails from a keg or bin into a bag or tray for weighing in old-time hardware stores. (Some still use them.) But they quickly found employment in the garden.
