A sturdier outdoor plant support.
These supports are a take on a semi-circular commercial support that you can find in many big box stores. They are typically made from 1/4" diameter metal rod and tend to be too short or fall over themselves under the weight of large stands of plants, like bearded irises and crocosmia.
These plant supports were made for a customer with a stand of cardoons that get 6-8 feet tall and have big heavy thistle flower. To hold the plants up at their full maturity the stands are made from 3/8" round steel stock and measure approximately 40" high, 20-22" in diameter at their max. As they are hammered into a curve by hand the half-circle form has a slight organic form to it. Each leg is moveable along the rim, to allow for flexibility in placement to avoid roots or other obstructions. Most people will set these from 8" to 12" deep depending on how robust and heavy the plant body material is when pushing against them.
